Yuzu Hiragi (ひいらぎ Hīragi Yuzu) is Yūya Sakaki's childhood friend in the Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V anime. Her father owns You Show Duel School, the Duel school that she and Yūya attend. She is the Standard Dimension counterpart of Ruri (from the Xyz Dimension), Rin (from the Synchro Dimension), and Serena (from the Fusion Dimension). Yuzu and her counterparts are originally a girl named Ray whom Leo Akaba wants to resurrect to stop a Duelist named Zarc.

Appearance

Yuzu has blue eyes and dark pink hair, which she wears tied up in pigtails, clipped down by blue, spherical hair clips. Her hair also features two lighter pink bangs that fall to the side of her face. Yuzu's outfit consists of a sleeveless light-blue and white shirt with a musical note on the right collar, along with a red tie, which she wears with a dark red skirt and dark stockings. Her skirt is lengthened in the dub to cover the bare skin showing on her legs. She notably is not shown wearing the school jacket from Maiami Second Junior High School that other female students wear. She also wears a bracelet with strange abilities.

She later switches clothes with Serena, but she retains her bracelet, her spherical hair clips and her Duel Disk.

Later, she starts wearing some of Rin's clothes while staying at Yūgo's orphanage in the Synchro Dimension. Yuzu wears one of Rin's Riding Dueling outfits for the Friendship Cup; a predominantly white one-piece short-sleeved jacket-miniskirt combination with light pink shoulder pads and hot pink markings, in addition to back pockets; long white gloves with light pink elbow pads that extend over her elbows, hot pink pants, and white knee-length form-fitting boots with light pink kneepads.

While in the Underground Labor Facility, Yuzu wore one of the facility's uniforms: a dark red full body suit with a hood and brown shoes without socks.

After arriving at the Fusion Dimension's You Show Duel School Yuzu receives a change of clothes from Asuka Tenjōin; a sleeveless white shirt with a pink pad over her chest and shoulders, a pink skirt and a white belt. She also wears white boots.

As a little girl, Yuzu wore a pinkish dress with her bracelet hanging around her neck and had two blue flower hair clips tied to her pigtails before she used the spherical ones.

Personality

Yuzu is shown to be very sweet and kind but gets upset easily, often resulting in her actions causing huge consequences. An example of this would be when she smashed her fists down on the Solid Vision technology computer at You Show Duel School out of annoyance of how Yūya was Dueling, which ended up destroying the machine. Yuzu also has a tendency of whacking a paper fan on other people's heads, primarily Yūya and Shūzō, whenever they do something foolish. She is also shown to be quite argumentative, wanting to argue with a spectator who insulted Yūya and his father before his Duel with Strong Ishijima, showing that she can be just as defensive and caring of Yūya and his belief in his father.

Her perception and judgement begin to falter after her successive encounters with Yūto, due to Yūto's resemblance with Yūya, and her lack of knowledge of the subject frustrates her. These worries are put at ease after the encouragement from Yūto and Yūya, returning her resolve to become stronger so she can protect You Show Duel School and her friends.

She harbors feelings for Yūya, initially shown when she was blushing after Sora mistook her as Yūya's girlfriend and whenever Mieru Hōchun makes advances towards Yūya. The strongest examples so far included when she started to cry when she was worried that Yūya would never awake while he was unconscious for a few days after his encounter with Yūto and Yūgo, and upon being separated from Yūya in the Synchro Dimension.

Etymology

The character's name, "Yuzu" (), means Pomelo, and her surname not original name, "Hīragi" (ひいらぎ), means Osmanthus heterophyllus. Her English dub name is Zuzu. Both names are related to plants and fruits. However, her Deck nor anything about her is based on or is about plants and fruits.

Zuzu is a variation of her Japanese name, while her surname may be based on singer Susan Boyle, as a reference to the Deck she uses.

Abilities

Yuzu is quite athletic and acrobatic. Since her debut she was able to smash the Solid Vision Technology to the point where it malfunction in one punch. When she later refuses to go with Yūri she preforms several backflips and land with ease. She is also shown to be strong enough to shove Yūgo several feet backwards after lying prone, which nearly injured him and damaged his D-Wheel.

Arc V Baby Yuzu and Shūzō

Baby Yuzu and her father.

Yuzu is Yūya's childhood friend. Yuzu was raised by her father, Shūzō, and she never knew her mother.[1] She had her bracelet since her birth,[2] according to Shūzō who was the one who took care of Yuzu since then. Shūzō never remembered how Yuzu was born, but never thought much about it and thought of Yuzu as a gift from God. He always took her with him when she was a baby to his Entertainment Duels, sometimes resulting Shūzō must paused the Duel for a moment to change her diapers when Yuzu cried.[3] According to Yūya, Yuzu was always there for him when he was being tormented over his father's disappearance and would comfort him.

Standard Dimension Arc

Yūya vs. Strong Ishijima

Yuzu panics

Yuzu accidentally broken the Solid Vision.

Yuzu monitored the Duel between Yūya and Gongenzaka in You Show Duel School. Angered at Yūya for not focusing on the Duel, she pounded on the Solid Vision machine's keyboard, causing it to malfunction. As Yuzu panicked, the machine exploded right in front of her face. After the incident, Yuzu was still upset at Yūya for goofing off. As her father, Shūzō, was excited at Nico Smiley's offer for the newest Solid Vision technology, Yuzu smacked him on the head with a paper fan and criticized him for going against his word for not letting Yūya Duel against Strong Ishijima. When Yūya disappeared, Yuzu wondered where he went. Later, she, Gongenzaka and Shūzō went to the Dueling arena to watch Yūya's Duel against Ishijima.[4] She was shocked when Yūya performed a Pendulum Summon, and even more so when he actually defeated Ishijima.

You Show Duel School Exhibition Match

Yuya and Yuzu

Yuzu and Yūya performing an exhibition match.

Afterwards, the You Show Duel School was flooded by applicants, which proved difficult for Yuzu to keep up with, alongside the fact that she was scheduled to Duel Yūya in an exhibition match. Before the Action Duel started, Yūya began acting foolishly, earning him a smack from Yuzu's fan, prompting the ire of Yūya's newfound fans. Realizing that she would be portrayed as the villain, she urged Yūya to exchange insults with her, and Yūya came up with the concept that she was looking for revenge for Ishijima. However, Yūya failed to Pendulum Summon during his turn, so he instead urged Yuzu to attack him, under the impression that the pinch would allow him to Pendulum Summon. Instead, Yuzu's attack went through, winning her the Duel. She examined Yūya's Pendulum Cards afterwards to try and figure out how the Summon worked, but they were unable to do so, and all the applicants save Tatsuya left, despite Yuzu's protests. She introduced Tatsuya to Yūya, and the boy was accepted into the Duel School.[5]

Yūya vs. Shingo

Arc V 03 Yuzu Smacks Yuya

Yuzu smacked Yūya for not paying attention.

At school the next day, Yuzu frantically tried to wake Yūya (who had been up all night trying to Pendulum Summon again), before their teacher could notice; unfortunately, her efforts were unsuccessful, resulting in Yūya embarrassing himself by trying to claim the answer to the problem he'd been asked was "the right one." Yuzu whacked him over the head with her fan, pointing out that that was never the right answer. After school, FutoshiAyu, and Tatsuya all asked to see a Pendulum Summon, but they were interrupted by Shingo, who threw sucker-tipped darts at Yūya (to Yuzu's disapproval.) When Shingo, claiming to be a fan of Yūya, offered the use of the Center Duel Field at LDS, Yuzu was somewhat insulted that the school owned by her family was being passed over, but she went along to LDS regardless. Shingo then asked to see Yūya's Pendulum Cards, and swiped them when they were offered, then he offered to return them to Yūya if he won against him in a Duel, holding Yuzu and the other children hostage on top of a suspension bridge in "Prison Tower of Darktown."

Arc V 03 Yuzu holding Futoshi

Yuzu holding Futoshi.

When Yūya picked up Action Trap Cards that were set in the area, the place where Yuzu and the children were standing was damaged, and Futoshi almost toppled off were it not for Yuzu's intervention. Scared by the heights, Futoshi began crying, prompting Yuzu to try and reassure him, stating that boys shouldn't cry.[6] After Shingo Pendulum Summoned, the Duel began to go badly for Yūya until he was able to reclaim his stolen Pendulum Monsters with "Empty Fishing." At that point, the tower crumbled beneath Yuzu and the others, but she and Ayu were saved by "Stargazer Magician," and she cheered Yūya on as he won the Duel with his own Pendulum Summon. Afterwards, Shingo tried to take the Pendulum Cards by force until he was knocked out by Sora Shiun'in, who proceeded to declare himself Yūya's apprentice. Yuzu was more shocked about the state of Shingo and his friends, until Sora reassured her that he'd simply knocked them unconscious.[7]

Yūya vs. Sora

Sora looks at Yuzu smacking Yūya

Yuzu smacks Yūya for mocking her.

As she walked to school with Yūya the next day, Yūya explained that Sora had followed him home and continued to follow him around, Sora proving so by popping up behind them a few seconds later. After Yūya's continual refusal to show Sora a Pendulum Summon, Sora asked Yuzu, whom he thought was Yūya's girlfriend, to help him ask. Yūya and Yuzu denied that they were dating, Yūya claiming he'd never date a "strong, crude girl" like Yuzu. Though somewhat uncomfortable after Sora's statement, Yūya's remarked earned him a swat from Yuzu's fan, and she angrily walked off, muttering furiously that Yūya didn't have to describe it like that.

Ep5 Yuzu and Ayu

Yuzu and Ayu impressed by Sora's cute monsters.

Nevertheless, her anger eventually faded, though Sora continued to interrupt them over the course of the day, putting Yūya in a bad mood. Yuzu managed to snap him out of it, pointing out that he was an entertainer, but Sora was waiting for them at You Show Duel School. His begging Yūya to Duel him and his reaction after being turned down yet again by Yūya earned Yuzu's sympathies. Eventually, Yūya agreed to Duel Sora. During the Duel, Yuzu appreciated Sora's cute-looking monsters, though she was surprised when the monster he Fusion Summoned was scary-looking and she comforted a scared Ayu.[8] After Yūya's "Odd-Eyes" was destroyed, Yuzu sympathized with him, knowing that the card represented both Yūya's courage and his Pendulum Summoning. She was relieved for him when he won the Duel.[9]

Yūto vs. Shingo

Ep7 Yuzu and Ayu

Yuzu and Ayu noticed Shingo and his group.

One day, Yuzu and Ayu, on their way back to the You Show Duel School with ice cream for everyone, overheard two of Shingo's friends commenting that Shingo was planning on getting revenge on Yūya for humiliating him. She decided to go after him, intent on repaying Yūya for saving her in his Duel with Shingo. When she got to their hangout, she told Ayu to go and tell Yūya what was happening before entering the warehouse. Her interruption caused Shingo to choke on his food, and she angrily yelled at him, shooting various insults and not letting Shingo get a single word in in response. She demanded to Duel Shingo, and he accepted, locking them inside the warehouse.

Yuto stops Yuzu

Yuzu stopped by Yūto from Duelling Shingo.

Before they could begin, the warehouse door was thrown open by a mysterious Duelist, who raised his Duel Disk, indicating that he intended to take Yuzu's place in the Duel. She protested, but the Duelist told her that he didn't want to see her hurt anymore. The Duelist Set his entire hand on the first turn, only to have it destroyed by Shingo's new "Monarch" cards. Yuzu realized in shock that she could feel the wind from "Möbius the Frigid Ice Monarch" when it used its effect and attacked despite the fact that they weren't in an Action Field. The Duelist used the effects of the Magic Cards in his Graveyard to block the direct attack and then performed an Xyz Summon on the next turn, calling out "Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon," then using it to reduce Shingo to 100 Life Points, violently damaging the warehouse with its attack. The Duelist questioned Shingo, then turned to leave, but Shingo attempted to win the Duel, only to be countered by another card from the Duelist's Graveyard, "Phantom Death Spear," which pierced Shingo's jacket.

Arc V Yuzu's Bracelet activates

Yuzu's bracelet activates.

The impact from the attack bruised the Duelist's mask and he removed it, which revealed himself to be a boy with a face that resembled Yūya so much that Yuzu, Shingo and his gang mistook him for Yūya. She attempted to ask him what he had been doing, but her bracelet suddenly glowed with a harsh magenta light, blinding her. After the glow faded, she found that the Duelist vanished. As Yuzu tried to locate the mysterious Duelist, Yūya ran into the warehouse and asked her what had happened, commenting on the smell of smoke.[10]

You Show Duel School vs. LDS

The next day, Yuzu attended class at the Duel School with Yūya and her friends, but her thoughts remained preoccupied by what she'd seen the previous night. She asked her father whether their school taught Xyz Summoning, only to get a negative response. Yuzu was somewhat relieved until everyone heard Gongenzaka shouting. Shingo's friends had showed up, claiming that Yūya had hospitalized Shingo. They pointed out that Yuzu had seen it too; she remained silent, unsure of what she'd seen. Himika Akaba, Chairwoman of the Leo Corporation, then arrived, also accusing Yūya.

Yuzu and Sora

Yuzu calming down Sora.

Eventually, she stated that regardless of whether Yūya had attacked Shingo or not, the loss would damage the reputation of LDS and could not go unanswered. Himika then made a bet that the two schools would Duel; if LDS won, they would acquire the You Show Duel School and add Pendulum Summoning to its curriculum. Yūya refused to give into their ideals, though Yuzu still wasn't sure about what she'd seen. She asked Yūya if he'd attacked Shingo and Yūya denied it. Convinced that he was telling the truth, Yuzu agreed to fight with him, and Sora joined them as the three representatives to fight the three elite students from LDS, with Yūya going first against Hokuto Shijima.[11]

Duel Against Masumi

Yuzu lost against Masumi

Yuzu lost to Masumi.

After Yūya won his match against Hokuto,[12] Yuzu offered to Duel against Masumi Kōtsu next. Yuzu went in with confidence, knowing that a win would protect the You Show Duel School and Yūya. Masumi pointed out that Yuzu's eyes were clouded and she was hesitating. During the course of the Duel, Yuzu kept seeing Yūya as Yūto, affecting her actions. Even though she got an advantage after her first turn, Masumi rebounded and used the effect of "Gem-Knight Master Dia" to finish Yuzu off. Yuzu jumped at the opportunity to grab an Action Card, only to find that she was looking at a reflection of it, proving Masumi's analysis of Yuzu's current state of mind. Yuzu was blasted back by "Master Dia" and lost her Duel. As Yūya tried to wake her up, she saw him as a vague silhouette of Yūto at first. With the score tied at 1-1, Gongenzaka Dueled with Yaiba Tōdō to determine the You Show Duel School's fate.[13] After the Duel ended in a draw,[14] she watched the tiebreaker Duel between Yūya and Reiji.[15][16]

Yūya vs. Shūzō

Ep14 Yuzu smacks Shūzō

Yuzu smacks her father for his act.

After Yūya's win against Reiji, she tried to console Yūya after he realized he was not the only one who could Pendulum Summon. Throughout Shūzō's Duel with Yūya, she was extremely irritated by her father's antics, and after her father lost his Duel to Yūya and pretended to die dramatically (with an equally dramatic response from Yūya), she slapped him with her fan, scolding the both of them to stop their overdramatic jokes.[17]

Training with Sora

While eating lunch at school with Yūya, she was approached by Shingo, who offered her a handkerchief, but she turned his gesture down. She later learned from him that Reiji left the Duel due to an attack on an LDS professor. After school, when Yūya pleaded with her to help him qualify for the Junior Youth Championship, Yuzu reminded him that she had already qualified and thus can't Duel him.

Sora teaching Yuzu the Fusion Summon

Yuzu receives "Fusion" Card from Sora.

After hearing of Yūya's goal to become stronger, she also decided that she should do the same. She went in search of Sora, whom she found at LDS, and led him to the hangar where Shingo was attacked. Yuzu asked him to train her in Fusion Summoning, troubled over her loss to Masumi. Sora gave her a "Fusion" card and explained the basics of Fusion Summoning. Sora detected the presence of another person then; Yuzu watched as Sora chased down the person and fought with his Duel Disk, then recognized the third party to be the masked Duelist that Dueled Shingo. Masumi then showed up, believing that the Duelist had attacked Marco, and attempted to Duel him herself, but as Yuzu desperately tried to calm the group down, her bracelet glowed again, transporting the Duelist away. As before, Yūya came running in soon after looking for Yuzu, and explained that he'd got the four Duels he needed to enter the Championship.[18]

Ep18 Yuzu panics

Yuzu forgets to put her monster in the Extra Deck.

Rather than go with Yūya to watch his Duels, Yuzu instead went with Sora, who was seeking to qualify himself.[19][20] Sora made sure to Fusion Summon in his Duels to demonstrate some of the basics to Yuzu. The two later had a practice Duel, but Yuzu's Fusion Summon failed as she'd forgotten to put her "Meisterin Schubert the Melodious Maestra" in her Extra Deck. Sora chided her for not remembering that Fusion Monsters went in the Extra Deck instead of the Main Deck. He noted that she was still thinking about the masked Duelist, and that it was throwing her concentration off. Yuzu confided with Sora of the Duelist's ability to cause physical impacts outside of an Action Duel, and was surprised when her bracelet suddenly began to glow. Unbeknownst to her, this warped the eavesdropping masked Duelist away. Yūya showed up afterwards, as Shūzō had sent him to find her.

Arc V Yuzu asks Shūzō about her bracelet

Yuzu asks Shūzō about her bracelet.

Yuzu later returned home and asked her father about her bracelet. Shūzō told her that she'd had it since she was born, an answer that didn't satisfy Yuzu. Frustrated, she left for her room, slumped on her bed and removed the bracelet, telling herself to get her act together.[21] She continued watching Sora's qualification Duels, making sure to pay more attention. She improved to the point of being able to correctly discern his winning move and chant along with his Summon.

Encounter with Shun and Yūto

Yuzu, Sora and Masumi

Yuzu and Sora being confronted by Masumi.

As they walked towards the warehouses later, she noted that he could have won earlier, but he replied that he'd held back to show her Fusion Summoning again. Yuzu thought she had Fusion Summoning down, and she was ready to practice her skills in a real match, and Sora accepted. Masumi then showed up again before them, asking where the masked Duelist was, believing Yuzu to be hiding him. Masumi explained that several LDS members had vanished, and blamed Yuzu for letting the Duelist escape. She challenged Yuzu to a Duel, but Sora commented that Yuzu should be able to defeat Masumi easily, as LDS Fusion Summons weren't much of a threat. Masumi took this as an insult and challenged him instead, but her claims of LDS being the strongest attracted the attention of Shun, who ran up and knocked Yuzu aside, scattering her cards. He held out his Duel Disk, challenging Masumi himself; however, before they could Duel, the masked Duelist jumped in to stop Shun, who addressed him as "Yūto".

Sora, Yuzu, Yuya 21

Yūya returned Yuzu's Deck.

When Shun finally noticed Yuzu, he mistook her for someone called Ruri. Yuzu was taken aback, but before he could go on, Shun was punched in the gut by Yūto, who told him that she wasn't Ruri, before Shun fell unconscious. Yūto picked up "Fusion" from Yuzu's scattered cards and remarked that Fusion Summoning didn't suit Yuzu. Yūya came running to Yuzu with Hokuto and Yaiba soon after; her bracelet glowed as it did in past incidents, teleporting both Yūto and Shun away. When Yūya asked if she was alright, she expressed confusion over being called "Ruri" and the recurring events that had been happening around her, and started to cry. Yūya helped her gather her Deck and returned it to her, but later picked up her "Fusion" card, thinking he had overlooked it earlier.[22]

Yūya vs. Mieru

Mieru, Yuya, Yuzu

Yuzu jealously chasing after Yūya and Mieru.

Yuzu returned to the warehouses the next day to search for her missing card, but was disrupted by Sora's call to watch his final qualifying Duel.[23] They made it to Yūya's Duel against Mieru right as he used her "Fusion" card to Fusion Summon; when the Duel ended, Yūya thanked Yuzu for her card as he returned it to her, since it had been an important factor in helping him clinch the match. However, they were interrupted as Mieru jumped onto Yūya, thinking that he was her "fated person", causing her to become angry and chase Yūya with her fan, somehow thinking that it was his fault.[24]

Shun vs. Masumi, Yaiba, & Hokuto

Yuto stops Yuzu 2

Yuzu was stopped by Yūto from going after Masumi.

After they left Mieru's Duel School, Yuzu looked at her returned "Fusion" Magic Card and remembered Yūto's comments regarding it. She then saw Masumi up ahead in the streets, heading down an alleyway, and giving her friends the excuse that he was doing something that she'd just remembered, she pursued Masumi, but quickly lost her and instead ran into Yūto, who prevented her from going any further, as Shun was currently Dueling Masumi. Yūto didn't want Yuzu involved, nor to get hurt, but she called him out on letting Shun hurt Masumi regardless, and angrily asked who Yūto and Shun were. Yūto explained the situation: He and Shun were fighting to get back their captured comrades, one of which was Ruri.

Yuzu and Yuto

Yūto tells Yuzu that she is a lot like Ruri.

And while he had indeed initially mistaken Yuzu for Ruri, Yūto explained that Yuzu was not Ruri, as their enemy used Fusion Summoning, which Yuzu had learned happily. Yuzu explained that she had done so to try and protect You Show Duel School. Yūto was quite surprised, and he ended up encouraging her to keep trying to protect her friends, saying that it wasn't wrong, before smiling, causing Yuzu to compare him to Yūya. Before leaving, her told her his name, and explained that Ruri was in fact Shun's younger sister.[25] Yuzu eventually arrived at the place where Masumi and Shun had been Dueling, but by then, only the crows remained.

Yūya vs. Gongenzaka

Ep26 Yuzu and Sora

Yuzu thought she should have left her "Fusion" card with him.

The next day, Nico Smiley requested that Yuzu come to Gongenzaka Dojo so that she could watch Yūya's final qualification match against Gongenzaka, but without Yūya knowing that they were there. When her father was torn between cheering for Yūya or Gongenzaka, Yuzu had to smack him with her fan to calm him down.[26] During the match, she expressed worry for Yūya and held the opinion that she should have left her "Fusion" card with him, but fortunately, he was able to Fusion Summon twice using his "Entermate Trump Witch" and defeat Gongenzaka. She congratulated him after the match and again smacked her father to calm him down.[27]

Maiami Championship Arc

Round 1

Tatsuya, Yuzu, Yuya, and Sora

Yuzu scolded Yūya for coming late.

At the beginning of the Junior Youth Championship, after some pep-talking by Shūzō, Yuzu was the first to notice that Yūya had snuck off and was in danger of being late. At the tournament venue, she frantically looked for him, but it was to no avail until they ran into Mieru, whose constant comments about Yūya, her "Darling", sent Yuzu into a rage. The kids did their best to hold her back, only calming her when she saw that Mieru had divined Yūya's direction and she seemed to realize where he was. Yūya eventually showed up, much to everyone's relief, as did the barely-qualified Gongenzaka.

Ep27 Yuzu and Yūya

Yuzu and Yūya were surprised to see Shun with LDS.

The six You Show Duelists walked out onto the tournament field after many of the others, and Yūya was asked to make the pledge of fair play, though he initially messed it up, he made a speech about his father and his determination instead. Afterwards, the group used their registration cards to learn who their opponents were and when they'd face one another. Yuzu realized that she was up against Masumi again, while Sora was against Shun, who they'd seen walking in with LDS. Yūya revealed to Yuzu that he'd met Shun and seen him attack the LDS top-team, and Yuzu asked Masumi why Shun was with them. A confused Masumi explained that Shun had been a part of their group from the very start.[28]

Rematch Against Masumi

Bloom Diva and Yuzu 29

Yuzu summoned Bloom Diva.

Yuzu Dueled Masumi as the first Duel of the Junior Youth division. Masumi brought out "Master Dia" immediately. Yuzu countered with "Meisterin Schubert", whose anti-Fusion effect overcame "Master Dia". Masumi Summoned her "true ace", "Gem-Knight Lady Brilliant Dia" with "Brilliant Fusion" and began using Action Cards to overcome the negative effects of "Brilliant Fusion". Yuzu was forced to play defensively in response, ultimately leaving her with 100 Life Points, but with Masumi's own "Crystal Rose" on her field. Using "Crystal Rose" and "Soprano the Melodious Songstress", Yuzu brought out a second Fusion Monster, "Bloom Diva the Floral Melodious Saint". Masumi countered with "Brilliant Spark", but Yuzu dove off the Action Field's bridge to snatch an Action Card before Masumi could use it for the effect, winning her the Duel with "Bloom Diva". Later, Masumi approached Yuzu and gave her "Crystal Rose".[29]

Noboru Gongenzaka vs. Gen Ankokuji

Ep30 Yuzu

Yuzu reassured Gongenzaka that Yūya could take care of himself.

The next day, the group were running late for Gongenzaka's Duel against Gen Ankokuji, when they saw Yūya running off. They went to the Duel without him, and Yuzu called Yūya before the match. Yūya revealed that he was trying to get Gongenzaka's sash back, much to Yuzu's confusion. After seeing Gongenzaka tortured by Ankokuji's claims that Yūya was being assaulted by his friends, Yuzu reassured Gongenzaka that Yūya could take care of himself and would get the sash back.[30]

Yūya Sakaki vs. Shingo Sawatari

She watched Yūya's Duel against Shingo worriedly, having overheard Shingo's comments and suspecting that he had Pendulum Monsters. Yuzu's worries deepened after Yūya was driven into a corner, but Gongenzaka reassured her that Yūya hadn't given up yet.[31] When Yūya appeared to have been buried in rubble during the Duel, Yuzu was particularly distressed, screaming her friend's name in terror and being equally relieved when he was shown to have escaped. Watching the Duel, she observed that Yūya had evolved in the Duel again, and she and the others cheered when he won.[32]

Sora Shiun'in vs. Shun Kurosaki

Yuya blocked

Yuzu and Yūya worried about Sora.

Sora was up next against Shun, and she discussed the situation with Yūya beforehand regarding the mystery of Shun's loyalties. When Yūya explained that "Raid Raptors - Rise Falcon" had taken out an entire LDS top team, Yuzu wondered how it had done so with only 100 ATK.[33] She continued to watch the Duel in growing apprehension as Shun's comments reminded her of what he'd said beforehand and as Sora revealed his true sadistic colors. Yuzu was horrified at the outcome, which ended with Sora's loss and hospitalization, rushing down to him with Yūya.[34]

Ep37 Yuzu and Yūya

Yuzu tries to wake Yūya up.

Yuzu discussed the events with Yūya and Gongenzaka that night at the hospital, and Yuzu told them everything that had happened to her, including about Yūto and that he looked like Yūya. They overheard the guards stating that Sora had escaped, and after calling her father, the trio split up to look for Sora, Yuzu searching the main city fruitlessly and calling Yūya.[35] When she arrived in Central Park, her bracelet activated, and she found Yūya in a state of shock before he collapsed.[36]

Round 2

Yuya, Mieru, Yuzu and Yoko

Yuzu and Yōko watching Mieru helping Yūya.

Two days later, she and Yōko Sakaki watched over Yūya while he was still unconscious. She stared at her bracelet, wondering why Yūya hadn't woken up and what had happened to Sora, and then started sobbing, worried that Yūya would never wake up. Yōko reassured her that Yūya would be fine, and that he would wake up even stronger than before. The two were startled when Mieru suddenly appeared in the window and jumped in, declaring that she would save Yūya. They watched as she prepared the room in a ritualistic manner, before noticing that Yūya was wearing gray pajamas. She insisted that they change him into green-and-white plaid pajamas, which they did. They asked her how she knew Yūya was here, and learned that she had abandoned her Championship match to see him. They convinced her that Yūya would recover even faster if she won her match, and she vowed to win it for him, much to their relief.

Yuya confused

Yuzu listening to Yūya's confusion about Yūto and Yūgo.

Despite Mieru's subsequent defeat, Yūya woke up soon after that. Yuzu told him that Futoshi had lost his second-round Duel against Reira, who had used a Synchro Summon to defeat him. Yūya then told her about what he had learned about the Four Dimensions, and about Yūgo, the so-called "Pawn of Fusion" from the Synchro Dimension that also looked like Yūya. Yuzu recalled that Yūto had told her that Fusion was his enemy and that they had captured Ruri, and he speculated that Yūgo may have been Ruri's captor. She was surprised to see that Yūya had Yūto's "Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon" card, and asked him why. He responded that Yūto had given it to him after losing his Duel with Yūgo, and that that was the last thing he remembered. When he started asking why Yūto and Yūgo both looked like him, Yuzu commented that Yūto had also told her that Ruri looked like her. They began to wonder if Shun knew about all this, and decided to go and see him.

Yūya vs. Isao

You Show Students 38

Yuzu got worried once knowing Yūya's next opponent is Isao.

They met up with Masumi, Hokuto, and Yaiba at Centre Court, and asked if they could speak to Shun directly. Yaiba told them that they wouldn't be able to, and instead suggested that they watch his upcoming match against Isao Kachidoki. They did, and were horrified to see him getting physically assaulted as Isao repeatedly snatched Action Cards away from him, and ultimately defeated him. She found out that she would be Dueling against Mikiyo Naname in the second round, and that Yūya would be Dueling against Isao. When he resolved to Duel against Isao to make him smile, Yuzu supported him.[37] However, she was shocked when Yūya awakenedXyz Summoning "Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon" and using its effect to defeat Isao. When Yūya turned to see his friends, she gave him a concerned stare.[38]

Ep40 Yuzu after defeating Mikiyo

Yuzu after defeating Mikiyo.

Afterwards, as Yuzu walked out to the arena to Duel Mikiyo Naname, her second-round opponent, she noticed Yūya was in a state of depression and resolved to cheer him up. She was annoyed by Mikiyo's crowd-pleasing style and promised to show everyone a real Entertainment Duel as You Show Duel School's poster girl. After a long, tight match, Yuzu eventually defeated Mikiyo using her "Bloom Diva the Floral Melodious Saint", successfully snapping Yūya out of his daze.[39]

Battle Royale: Yuzu & Gongenzaka vs. Olga & Halil

Olga and Yuzu 42

Yuzu bumped into Olga.

After her Duel with Mikiyo, Yuzu later watched the announcement of the final 16 participants on TV at You Show. The next day, the participants were informed that instead of single Duels, they would be participating in a Battle Royal around the city.[40] Her first Duel was against Halil in the Iceberg Area of the Action Field, who gave her a Pendulum Monster beforehand because she only had one of the required two, but then managed to take it back during the Duel. While she reached for an Action Card, she ended up sliding off the ice shelf and into Olga, who was Dueling Gongenzaka at the time, resulting in both Duels being combined into a Tag Duel with Yuzu being paired with Gongenzaka.[41] After Gongenzaka was defeated, she proceeded to defeat both Halil and Olga. She offered Gongenzaka two of the four Pendulum Monsters they one, but he only took one because Yuzu was the true winner.[42]

Duel Against Dennis

Yuzu saved by Dennis

Yuzu saved by Dennis and Trapeze Magician.

She proceeded to look for Shun at the Volcano area, but instead met Dennis who then challenged her to a Duel, which she accepted out of interest as a fellow Entertainment Duelist. From the beginning until near the end of the Duel, Yuzu has the upper hand due to Bloom Diva's Monster Effect, but the tide quickly changed to Dennis's favour when he used Trap Card "Trick Box" that switched his Trapeze Magician with Bloom Diva, leading to Yuzu's defeat. After losing to Dennis and giving him her wagered Pendulum cards, Serena showed up, challenging Dennis whom she mistook as an Xyz remnant. Yuzu tried to stop Serena since they were in the middle of the Championship, but Dennis accepted her challenge.[43] Seeing Serena using Fusion Summon, Yuzu realised that she was not Ruri and witnessing how strong her Fusion Summon is, she concluded that she was from the Fusion Dimension.

Discussion with Serena

Tsukikage and Yuzu

Yuzu saved by Tsukikage.

The Duel ended with Serena's victory, but before she could seal Dennis into a card, the Obelisk Force arrived. Before they could make their move, both Yuzu and Serena were carried away by Tsukikage and Hikage while the Youth Team Dueled the Obelisk Force.[44] After Serena and Yuzu were saved by Tsukikage and Hikage respectively, they went to the Iceberg Area where Serena revealed her identity and her reason for targeting the Xyz remnant. Hearing this, Yuzu revealed what she knew about the tragedy of the Xyz Dimension, how the Academia Duelists were laughing while turning all Xyz Dimension people into cards as if they are playing a hunting game. Seeing Serena not believing her story, she suggested for Serena to meet Shun, the Xyz remnant she was looking for, to confirm her story. Agreeing with Yuzu's suggestion, the two swapped clothes to avoid the Obelisk Force from capturing Serena. Yuzu, however, had to drag Serena behind a rock to change so Tsukikage wouldn't see them and since the latter didn't understand that privacy was important.

Encounter with Yūri

Arc V Yuri meets Yuzu

Yuzu confronted by Yūri.

Yuzu and Serena narrowed down Shun's location to the Ancient Ruins area, since he was not in the Volcano, Jungle, and Iceberg areas.[45] After nodding at each other, both girls went their separate ways. After splitting up with Serena, Yuzu quickly encountered three Obelisk Force members. Knowing how important for Serena to learn the truth about what happened to Xyz Dimension, Yuzu decided to Duel the Obelisk Force. Before she could Duel any of them, Yūri came from the top of a building to gave a warning to the Obelisk Force to leave Yuzu to him or else they would end up with the same fate as Olga and Halil, whom he had sealed in cards. Yuzu initially mistook Yūri for Yūya, but he quickly corrected her.

Yuzu hiding from Yuri

Yuzu hiding from Yūri.

Remembering about Yūya's encounter with Yūto and Yūgo, Yuzu thought that Yūri was the latter. Yūri explained that the Professor wanted Yuzu and it his mission to get her. Yuzu refused, making Yūri comment that she was just like Ruri and Rin, revealing that he was the one who kidnapped them under the Professor's order. Yūri then challenged Yuzu to a Duel, which Yuzu had no choice but to accept. After fighting Yūri throughout the night, she made her way to a hiding spot under the ice to hide from him, knowing that she is not strong enough to defeat him. Unfortunately, Yūri easily located her.

Encounter with Yūgo

Yuzu and Yugo

Yuzu and Yūgo got teleported by her bracelet.

Knowing that Yūri was close to capturing her, Yuzu was about to give up as she pleaded for Yūya to save her, but all of a sudden her bracelet began to glow and Yūri was teleported away from the location. Thinking that Yūya was coming like before, it turned out that it was not Yūya, but Yūgo, who arrived on his D-Wheel. Yūgo then saw Yuzu, who he mistook for Rin. Yūgo then ran over in joy, hugging Yuzu as he told her that he missed her. Yuzu was shocked for a moment until she remembered Yūri mentioning Rin's name. She asked Yūgo if he knew who Rin was and then was surprised to see that he also resembles Yūya. Before Yūgo could answer her question, they were teleported away by Yuzu's bracelet because Yūya was nearby looking for her.[46]

Synchro Dimension Arc

Exchanging Information with Yūgo

Yuzu and Yugo 2

Yuzu and Yūgo exchanging information.

Upon arriving in the City, Yuzu is surprised at the fact that she ended up traveling dimension. Upon learning that she had another lookalike in the Synchro Dimension as well, she clarifies and informs Yūgo regarding who the actual kidnapper of Rin was and that Yūto wasn't the one who kidnapped her. They discussed various things including the fact that they have counterparts for some unknown reason. When Yūgo decided to use the power of her bracelet to get to Academia, Yuzu describes her helplessness at the fact that she can't control its ability, and then broke down in tears at the mention of Yūya who is not in this dimension. Yūgo apologized to her and offered her his handkerchief, which she accepted and said that if she can control her bracelet's power, she would like to return home. Yūgo once again apologised for upsetting her, revealing that Rin has always scolding his habit to talk whatever he likes without thinking, earning a giggle from Yuzu.

Pursued by Duel Chaser

Yugo and Yuzu chased by police

Yuzu and Yūgo escaping from Duel Chaser.

They were interrupted when the people of the Tops finally noticed them, and they had to flee on Yūgo's D-Wheel. Yūgo explained the competitive society of the City to Yuzu, as well as the history of the Duel King, Jack Atlas, whom he and Rin had idolized and built their D-Wheel for the purpose of Riding Dueling. A Security member arrived, and Yūgo attempted to outpace him, explaining that their trespass would mean being sent to a Facility if they were caught. The Duel Chaser forced a Riding Duel, and Yūgo finally asked for Yuzu's name, since he hadn't before. Telling her to hold on tight, as he began the Riding Duel.[47] After Yūgo defeated the Duel Chaser, the Duel lane was blocked by the Security, but Yūgo successfully escaped them. Yūgo and Yuzu were branded as fugitives in the City for breaking laws.[48]

Pre-Friendship Cup

The next day, Yuzu asked Yūgo about his hometown. He told her that he grew up not knowing what his parents looked like, which prompted Yuzu to recall that she never knew what her mother looked like either. Both of them tried to warn the City residents about Academia's invasion of the other dimensions. Even though Yuzu showed them the cards containing Olga's and Halil's souls, while Yūgo tried to dimension-hop with "Clear Wing" (and failed, much to Yuzu's embarrassment), no one believed them. They were forced to flee when a cafe worker called Security and when Frank and Tanner stole food from the café.[49]

Yuzu smack Yugo

Yuzu smacking Yūgo for his lack of delicacy.

A few days later, Yuzu and Yūgo stopped by at the orphanage where Yūgo and Rin grew up. Yūgo lent Yuzu with Rin's room key, telling her to take a bath and change her clothes since it's been days since she arrived and coincidentally her size is the same as Rin, angering Yuzu who smacked Yūgo with her paper fan as she told him he has no delicacy. After taking a bath, she asked Yūgo whether he really going to participate in the Friendship Cup, something that Yūgo confirmed. Yūgo also told her that he had also signed her up for the championship since it will be easier for her to tell about the dimensional war, much to Yuzu's dismay.[50]

Friendship Cup Exhibition Duel

Yugo and Yuzu 7

Yuzu watching the exhibition match with Yūgo.

On the eve of Friendship Cup, Yuzu and Yūgo decided to watch the exhibition duel at the Duel Palace. They arrived right just as the Duel about to start. Yuzu expressed her surprise when Melissa announced that Yūya was Jack's opponent. Yūya's presence not far from Yūgo caused her bracelet to react, confirming that the challenger was indeed Yūya, causing Yuzu to shed tears of happiness. As the match went on, Yuzu became worried when Yūgo revealed that Yūya was made a sacrifice to remind people of Jack's power. This turned out to be true as Jack defeated Yūya in the third turn with one-turn-kill, the impact from the attack caused Yūya to fell from his D-Wheel.[51]

After Yūya's defeat, a worried Yuzu ran to him in an attempt to help the injured Yūya, but was blocked by both fans and Security who attempted to arrest them with Yūgo. Luckily, the officers of the Council overruled their arrest and allowed them to be free to participate in the tournament, much to Roget anger. The officers escorted them to their rooms where all participants of Friendship Cup are staying. Yuzu asked how Yūya is, and the officer assured her that Yūya is in the same building as them since he is one of Friendship Cup participants.[52]

Duel Against Chojiro Tokumatsu

Yuzu 10

Yuzu started to introduce her Entertainment Duel.

Later, Yuzu dueled Chojiro in the third match of the Friendship Cup. Throughout the duel, Yuzu adopts various catchphrases and actions from her friends and family in the Standard Dimension to send a message to the distraught Yūya and tell him that he was not alone. After she won the duel, Yuzu asked Chojiro does he knew Yūya, but got flustered when Chojiro asked was she in love with Yūya, prompting Yuzu to smack him and she quickly apologized.[53] Yuzu then wondered if Yūya managed to get her message, forgetting to warn the audience about the inter dimensional war.

Serena vs. Tony

She later expressed surprise that Serena was in the Friendship Cup as well.[54]

Yūya vs. Duel Chaser 227

On the second day of the Friendship Cup, Yuzu watched Yūya's duel against Duel Chaser 227. She was shocked when Yūya revealed the fate of the losers and wondered if her victory had caused Chojiro to be sent underground to do forced labor. After Yūya's brutal victory over his opponent, she wondered if that was truly what Yūya wanted to convey.[55]

Yūgo vs. Shingo Sawatari

While she watched Yūgo's fight against Shingo, she recognized Yūya in Yūgo when he grabbed an Action Card as well as when he copied Yūya's catchphrase, leaving her speechless.[56]

Damon vs. Sergey Volkov

Yuzu cry happy

Yuzu cried happily while reading Yūya's message.

Yuzu was wondering how Yūya was faring after the last match until Tsukikage knocked and left a letter under the door. When Yuzu picked and read it, she realised it was a message from Yūya. The letter told her how he finally understand that he needs to defeat Jack to make people of the City listen to his belief and promised her that once they end the interdimensional war they will return to their hometown where their family and friends are waiting for them to come back, causing Yuzu to let out tear of happiness.[57]

Shun vs. Dennis

She watched the Duel between Dennis and Shun and was surprised when Dennis revealed that he was from Academia.[58] Yuzu was disturbed by the brutal battle between "Antique Gear Chaos Giant" and "Raid Raptors - Revolution Falcon", knowing that the "Giant" was toying with its opponent. She was further shocked when Dennis told Shun that he was the one who caused the Invasion of the Xyz Dimension and Ruri's kidnapping. After he was defeated, she wondered why Academia captured Ruri and Rin and why they were also after her and Serena.[59]

Duel Against Sergey

Arc V Yuzu using a fusion card

Yuzu using "Fusion" and summoned "Bloom Prima the Floral Melodious Saint".

The next day, Yuzu was called to Duel Sergey. Reminding herself of Yūya's letter, she resolved to convey her belief and warn the people of Synchro Dimension of the incoming Academia invasion by Duelling with everything she has in today's match. Starting the Duel, she took the first turn and ended her turn by summoning a monster and set one card to first observe what Sergey will do, but was surprised when Sergey summoned a monster with zero attack and furthered shock when Sergey used its effect to decrease his own LP. Despite her uneasiness of Sergey's tactic that continuously reduced his LP, she decided to continue and then Fusion Summoned "Bloom Prima".

Sergey crash Yuzu

Yuzu crashed by Sergey.

Unable to bring herself to continue seeing Sergey kept hurting himself, she tried to persuade Sergey to stop the Duel. However, she was shocked once Sergey lost control of himself as he declared that he found a Duel where Duelists destroying each other is beautiful. Sergey then performed Fusion Summon and used its monster effect to make his lost LP becoming his monster's attack point. Yuzu tried to reach an Action Card in response to the attack, but Sergey stopped her by crashing his own D-Wheel to Yuzu's just as "Bloom Prima" was destroyed, blasting Yuzu to crash into one of the buildings, losing the Duel. [60]

Yūya vs. Shinji Weber

Arc V Yuzu, Frank Tanner and Amanda

Yuzu met Frank, Tanner, and Amanda.

She was seriously injured from the crash but was rescued by Sora and taken to a room at the Commons area.[61] Later Sora brought her helmet to Yūya during his own Duel so he would know she was okay. After waking up she wondered who brought her to the room and felt dizzy. She was then approached by Frank, Tanner and Amanda and they recognized her as the one who crashed from the building much to her confusion, as she could not remember what happened to her after she was defeated by Sergey. They also revealed that they were friends with Yūya, Serena, Reira, and Shingo (though they forgot Shingo's name) and Yūya was looking for her.[62]

Shun vs. Crow

Yuzu, Frank, Amanda 82

Yuzu holding Frank together with Amanda to catch Tanner.

She went with the three orphans to a spot that overlooked the highway, where Shun was Dueling Crow Hogan. Frank called Shun out of line, and Yuzu defended him, pointing out that Shun had lost everything after Academia's attack. Frank explained that the Commons were the same, yet they didn't act like Shun did.[63] Yuzu chastised Tanner for standing on the rail, and after "Assault Black Feather - Raikiri the Sudden Shower" and "Raid Raptors - Blaze Falcon" passed under them, she noticed that Tanner was missing and wondered where he'd gone. It turned out that Tanner had fallen onto "Raikiri", and Yuzu attempted to hold Frank up to catch him. Fortunately, Shun was able to rescue Tanner and return him to Yuzu and the kids. Tanner explained to them that Shun seemed to be similar to Crow, and they watched the rest of the Duel, which ended with Crow's victory.[64]

Reunion with Sora

Sora and Yuzu 83-1

Yuzu stops Sora from sending her back to Standard.

Later on, Yuzu, Amanda, Tanner, and Frank were surrounded by Sector Security. Sora came to their rescue and helped Yuzu defeat the Security guards with "Fusion Death Waltz. Yuzu introduced Sora has her teacher, and assumed that he had defected from Academia. Sora replied that he hadn't; but he was trying to keep Yūya and Yuzu; his friends; safe from Academia. They were interrupted by Tsukikage, who was prepared to Duel Sora in revenge for Sora sealing Tsukikage's brother Hikage. Yuzu was able to convince both of them to stand down, and Tsukikage agreed to let Sora try to rescue Yūya from captivity under Jean-Michel Roget, while suggesting that Yuzu and the kids come underground to hide from Security.[65] Later, Yuzu sneezed after Yūgo reminisced about her.[66]

Yūya vs. Crow

Arc V Yuzu's Bracelet Resonates

Yuzu watches her bracelet glowed.

Yuzu was again seen in the underground facility doing recycling work with Frank, Tanner and Amanda while waiting for Sora during Yūya's Duel against Crow Hogan. When Yūya synchronized with his dimensional counterparts, her bracelet began to glow in respond to their synchronisation, causing her to wonder whether something has happened to Yūya.[67] Yuzu wanted to go and help Yūya, but the kids were able to talk her out of it. Eventually the glow faded, and she wondered what had happened to Yūya.[68]

Underground Labor Facility

Yuzu in chaos

Yuzu gets separated from Gongenzaka by the rioting inmates.

During the riot, Yuzu looks for a way out to find Yūya, but is found by Gongenzaka. She tells Gongenzaka that her bracelet was shining and something must have happen to Yūya. Gongenzaka tells her that Academia has invaded the Synchro Dimension and Yūya might be Dueling them. Before they could do anything they were separated from each other by the rioting inmates.[69] Yuzu succeeded in getting outside, and while attempting to look for Yūya, Yuzu fell, but her bracelet began to glow again and acted as a compass in directing her to where Yūya was.[70]

Captured by Sergey

Yuzu and Sergey 92-1

Yuzu got captured by Sergey.

Yuzu then arrived only to realize Yūya was in Awakening state. As she made her way towards Yūya, her bracelet teleported both Yūgo and Yūri away from the area but also caused Yūya to be blown back and hit the ceiling, returning him to his normal senses, but Yuzu was blocked by the Obelisk Force. Tsukikage arrived just in time to rescue her from them. The Obelisk Force retreated because of the absence of Barrett and Yūri. After Yūya lost his Duel to Sergey, Sergey knocked Tsukikage away and captured Yuzu, even though Sora and Tsukikage's "Twilight Ninja - Shingetsu attempted to protect her. Sergey flew Yuzu out of the building and carried her towards Roget's designated location.[71]

Jack vs. Sergey

Arc V 93 Yuzu and Roger

Roget explaining to Yuzu that he will become the ruler of the City.

She was brought in before Roget by a Security member, and he tells her of his plan to defeat Jack with Sergey since Jack is the Common's and Top 's hope, and Yuzu wonders what Roget is trying to do. Like the others she is shocked at Sergey's transformation and questions if he's even human. After more boasting from Roget, Yuzu finally realizes that Roget's real aim is to take over the City.[72] As she continued to watch Jack and Sergey Duel, she eventually confronts Roget and tells him that he won't rule by oppressing others, and Roget (who was at first legitimately curious and wanted to hear more) eventually dismisses it after she talks about Duels bringing smiles to others. After Sergey starts ignoring Action Cards, Roget gets upset, and then completely flips out after he fully broke free from Roget's control. As Roget continued to rage out, he then says for Sergey to get an Action Card, but Yuzu tells him that it's now pointless as the two are no longer in his reach of control.[73]

Friendship Cup Final Match

Roger and Yuzu 98-1

Yuzu taken hostage by Roget.

When Roget declared martial law on the City, Yuzu shoved him out of the way and tried to talk the citizens down, but Roget pushed her away and he had her returned to her cell.[74] Yuzu waited there, praying by herself.[75] She later heard alarms and wondered if the rioting Commons had made it to the Security Headquarters, but it was in fact the work of Sora and Tsukikage, who opened her cell door to rescue her. [76] Unfortunately, Roget intercepted them and defeated both Sora and Tsukikage in a Duel before taking Yuzu with him, planning to return to the Fusion Dimension and use her as a bargaining chip. Yuzu was sickened by Roget's act of disabling the other elevators so that only he could escape and told him that he had lost and was running away. Roget began violently assaulting her, asserting that he had not lost and was simply retreating to plan his next move. Reiji, Reira and Tsukikage then arrived and Reiji deduced Roget's plan and ordered him to beg the City's forgiveness. Roget refused, fleeing with Yuzu into another room, trapping both her and Reiji there and Dueling Reiji.[77]

Yuya and Yuzu 99-9

Yuzu is relieved to finally be reunited with Yūya.

After Roget lost his Duel against Reiji, he tried to run away with Yuzu to Academia, with plans to utilize Yuzu as a leverage so that the Professor won't harm him and also take him under his wing. But while he was escaping in an elevator, Jack and Crow ambushed him and stopped him from escaping. This caused Yuzu to fall of the elevator, but Yūya saved her with the help of "Entermate Whip Viper" and "Entermate Discover Hippo", and finally had a proper reunion with him. Meanwhile, in a fit of rage and madness, Roget activated his "Interdimensional Travel Device" in order to send the City in the gap between the dimensions, but his device went out of control and opened up a wormhole which swallowed up Roget and closed.

Yuzu 99

Yuzu got sucked into a wormhole.

Regaining consciousness, Yuzu asked what happened to Roget, to which Yūya answered while he didn't know of Roget's fate, he was glad that Yuzu is here with him and no one is taking her away, much to Yuzu's happiness. When it seemed that everything was fine as Yūya told Yuzu they will go home now, another wormhole opened up, which swallowed Yuzu and sent her to an unknown dimension, and later sent Yūya, Gongenzaka, Shingo, and Shun to Heartland City in the Xyz Dimension.[78]

A child explained that in the city, once children graduated elementary school, they will be sent to Academia to learn Dueling. The mother of the child questioned her presence at the city since girl her age was supposed to be at Academia. Mistaking her as a runaway, they called for Juvenile Officers who chased after her. Cornered, Yuzu was ready to Duel until a mysterious girl stepped in and replaced her to Duel the officers. She easily defeated them all using her Ritual monster and helped Yuzu to escape. The girl introduced herself as Asuka Tenjōin.[79]

Yusho and Yuzu 104-4

Yuzu asked why Yūshō was at Fusion Dimension.

Asuka brought Yuzu to an underground Duel school, independent from Academia, You Show Duel School, where Duelists who ran away from Academia are sheltering. Yuzu was shocked to meet Yūya's father, Yūshō. Once she was sure he was real, she rushed to him, crying out to him how she and the others were worried for him, something that Yūshō apologized for. Yuzu then asked his presence at Fusion Dimension, and Yūshō explained that before ending up at Fusion Dimension, he was at Xyz Dimension and got transported by a Commander-in-Chief of Academia, Edo Phoenix, when the Academia invaded Xyz Dimension.[80]

Yūri vs. You Show Students

Asuka, Yugo, Yuzu 106

Yuzu heard that a Duelist from the Academia has finally tracked down the School while some students were escorting another escapee, so she went to check out who was it. And it turns out to be Yūri, whom she referred as simply "that guy", prompting Yūri to introduced himself and told Yuzu to go back with him. But due to the sudden appearance of Yūgo, he is teleported away by her Bracelet's power, surprising both Yuzu and Asuka. Reuniting with Yūgo, Yuzu asked why he was here, but was interrupted when Yūgo tried to hug her out of relief, prompting Yuzu to hit him. Yūgo revealed that he had believed she died when she was defeated by Sergey, much to Yuzu's anger. He changed the subject that Academia was here, which means Rin was also there. But Yuzu then revealed that not only Rin, Ruri and Serena were also held captive, the latter was recaptured.[81]

Fusion Dimension Arc

Yūshō vs. Dennis

Yugo, Asuka, and Yuzu 112-2

Yuzu worries for Yūshō's injuries.

Back at the school, Yuzu, along with Asuka and Yūgo, convinced Yūshō and other students to attack Academia right away since six of their students have already been carded by Yūri. Yūshō agreed under condition that he will also participated, and Yuzu told him not to push himself, but Yūshō insisted that he must talk to Leo. They were interrupted by Dennis' arrival who came to capture her. She was surprised to know that Dennis used to be Yūshō's students when he was at Heartland. She then watched the Duel between Yūshō and Dennis after the latter challenged the former. Yūshō used "Miracle Silk Hat" to buy himself and his students some times, including Yuzu, to escape while Dennis was distracted.

Reunion with Yūya

Yugo and Yuzu 112

Yuzu escaping with Yūgo.

Yuzu escaped with Yūgo, riding on his D-Wheel with Academia squad chasing after them in tow. They stopped once they reached a dead end, but Yuzu was prepared to protect herself despite Yūgo telling her not to. Yūgo tried to persuade her to stand back and promised he will protect her, but her bracelet then suddenly activated, transporting Yūgo away, surprising her. Her surprise turned into relief when she heard and saw Yūya approaching her with Kaito, Gongenzaka, and Shingo behind him.[82]

Yūya vs. Isao

Sawatari, Yuzu, Gongenzaka 113-1

Yuzu applauding for Yūya and Isao's Duel.

Yuzu tried to tell Yūya that his father was here, but Isao and Dennis' Academia squad challenged them to Duel. Yuzu told Yūya who at first refused to Duel Isao that she will be okay because Gongnenzaka was with her, convincing Yūya to Duel Isao. The Duel between Yūya and Isao distracted the Academia squad who challenged them earlier, allowing Yuzu, Gongenzaka, and Shingo to watch their Duel as well without any worry. Once Yūya won the Duel, Yuzu and everyone watching the Duel applause for Yūya and Isao.[83]

Captured by Serena

Yuzu and Serena 115-2

Yuzu got taken hostage by Serena.

She quickly brought Yūya to the harbor where Yūshō was, but they arrived too later as the ship has already sailed off, prompting them to look for another ship or a boat. Their search resulted without any luck until Serena appeared and told them there's a ship for them.[84] As they set sail on Captain Solo's ship, more Academia soldiers arrived by helicopter and Yuzu is taken hostage by Serena. While being taking to Academia, Yuzu asked Serena wasn't they comrades.[85] She is then thrown into a cell by Serena and asked her why was she doing this, only to hear that the Lancers will be defeated.[86]

Yūya and Yūto vs. Ruri and Serena

At some point Yuzu was brainwashed by Doctor and was seen watching Yūya and Yūto's Dueling Ruri and Serena with him and Rin.[87] She was shown to Yūya by Doctor under his control and left with him and her counterparts when Yūya was caught.[88]

Revival Zero

Yuzu 127-2

Yuzu worriedly seeing ARC-V.

Yuzu was summoned to the Professor's inner chambers in a tube with her counterparts and was freed from the Doctor's control when he was sealed into a card. She was happy to see Yūya but he couldn't get close due to the Professor. She learned how the Professor's daughter, Ray, defeated the Supreme King Dragon Zarc using four cards and split the United World into Four Dimensions. Yuzu was surprised when the Professor revealed that she and her counterparts were reincarnations of Ray and will be fused back into her by recreating the original dimension, ARC-V, with his machine. When the Professor revealed that Yūya is one of Zarc's reincarnations, Yuzu thought he was lying because Yūya isn't someone who would do such horrible things. But when Leo reminded Yuzu how Yūya absorbed Yūto and increased in power, she remembered the rage Yūya went through.[89]

Yūya and Reiji vs. Leo

Yuzu 128

Yuzu cried out for Yūya to save her.

Leo then began his plan to revive Ray, moving Yuzu and her counterparts to the machine where all life energies were collected. Yuzu could only watched as Yūya and Reiji dueled against the Professor, cheering for Yūya and Reiji. When the machine started to activate to fuse her and her counterparts, she cried out for Yūya, causing Yūya and Yūto to be consumed by their anger. This inadvertently awakened Zarc who momentarily possessed Yūya's body to express his anger. Seeing this, Yuzu once again denied that Zarc was possessing Yūya despite sensing something was not right with him.[90]

Yuzu 129-2

Yuzu pleads Yūya to regain his senses.

Yuzu was surprised when Reiji Released "DDD Gust King Alexander" and "DDD Wave King Caesar" to Summon "DDD Death Great King Hell Armageddon" and how Leo took control of "Hell Armageddon" with "Dis-swing Fusion". She then wondered was Yūya still himself or Zarc when he used used "Twin Big Shield" to protect "Entermate Gatlinghoul" as Yūya's behaviour changed uncertainly. When Yūya brought out "Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon" and Leo believed that Yūya was already Zarc, Yuzu strongly believed that Yūya has not yet disappear. Before Yūya was about attack Leo again, Yuzu shouted at him to stop and don't give into anger. She told them how she still believed that the real Yūya and Yūto are still there and begged them to return. However, when the machine caused their bodies to disappear, Yūya continued his attack and Yuzu screamed his name while crying.

Yuzu 131-2

Yuzu is transferred into ARC-V.

She was surprised when Yūshō used "Binding Swords of Impact" on Yūya to stop his last attack and revealed that he was convinced that she and her counterparts were indeed Ray's reincarnations and Yūya was Zarc's like Leo has told them. Yūshō continued that she became Shūzō's daughter in order to remain close to Yūya and prevent Zarc's revival due to Ray's will.[91] Yuzu was worried as she watched Yūya who was bound before passing out with her counterparts when the machine's energy input increased to fifty percent[92] While unconscious, purple energy were leaving from Yuzu and her counterparts bodies into Reira. She shed tears while unconscious and was transferred into ARC-V when it was at sixty percent.[93]

Fifth Dimension ARC-V Arc

Zarc vs. Ray & Reira

Yuya and Yuzu 140

Yuzu reminded Yūya of his true self and their promise.

When Reiji, Reira, and Ray tried to awaken Yūya's soul within Zarc, Yuzu's soul appeared from Ray, telling how she trusted Yūya and helped him to remember how he wanted to make people around the world smile and give them happiness. However, Zarc tried to deny those smiles and retorted that what he wanted to spread is terror. Yuzu cut him off and once again reminded Yūya how he wanted to save her, which in return gave her strength and told him to respond to everyone's thoughts so they can return together to their hometown. This gave Yūya enough will power to fight against Zarc's control and assisted Reira and Ray in defeating the Supreme King.[94]

Junior Youth Championship

Following Zarc's defeat and everyone returning to the Standard Dimension, now reborn as the Pendulum Dimension, Yuzu disappeared and almost everyone has no memories of Yuzu nor the interdimensional war.[95] When Shūzō was wondering about her paper fan and was about to go put in the supposed storage room, Shūzō realized that it's not a storage room but a girl's room and he immediately regained his memories of her. Shūzō quickly announced to the whole audience of her absence, causing everyone to remember Yuzu.[96] Reiji then informed Yūya that he was sure that Yuzu was still alive and well, and she was most likely still inside the remains of ARC-V together with her counterparts.[97]

Yūya vs. Shun

When Yūya went to Academia, he, Shun, Sora, and Asuka confronted Leo who was trying to find out what happened to Ray whose body was still inside the ARC-V Reactor. Since Zarc was revived only as Yūya, the Professor deduced that Ray may have been revived as Yuzu as well, leading Asuka to think of the possibility that the body inside the reactor was Yuzu, while her counterparts may have ceased to be just like Yūto, Yūgo, and Yūri who were no longer inside Yūya.[98]

The Last Duel: Yūya vs. Reiji

Yuzu 148-2

Yuzu replying Yūya's welcome.

After Yūya defeated Reiji, Yuzu was revived with Serena, Rin, and Ruri still apart of her when Ray reacted to their Duel, much to everyone's joy. She told Yūya that she believed that he could make everyone smile with his Dueling, tearfully telling Yūya that she's home when Yūya welcomed her. She was then surprised when Yūshō appeared at the stadium and challenge Yūya to a Duel now he has became a professional duelist and happily watched Yūya as he accepted his father's challenge.[99]

Deck

Yuzu uses a "Melodious" Deck, focusing on Swarm tactics through cards such as "Sonata the Melodious Diva" and "1st Movement Solo", giving her early access to her ace, "Prodigy Mozart the Melodious Maestra". After her loss to Masumi Kōtsu, she decided to learn how to Fusion Summon, and began practicing incorporating that strategy into her Deck, using cards such as "Soprano the Melodious Songstress", "Fusion Cancellation" and "Fusion Samsara". Also including cards to work with her new ace, " Bloom Diva the Floral Melodious Saint such as "Pianissimo" and "Slow Tempo". She is also shown to utilize a large amount of Angel and LIGHT support cards as well as multiple copies of her "Melodious" monsters, shown when she dropped her Deck.
